From Sao Ha, Sang Tung and Lao Xa to Dong Van, the White Cliff ridge, the Nho Que River and Meo Vac, each stop reveals a more authentic, compelling and less conventional side of Ha Giang.

DETAILED ITINERARY

DAY 0: TRAVEL TO HA GIANG CITY (MEALS: NOT INCLUDED)

Hanoi to Ha Giang City: approx. 280 - 300 km | 5.5 - 6 hrs by premium sleeper bus or 5 - 5.5 hrs by private car 

Guests arrange their own travel to Ha Giang City before the tour starts. On the night before the journey, a basic shared dorm resting area at the tour office can be provided for guests to rest and prepare for the trip the following morning.

Nomadic Soul Travel can assist with one of the following transfer options:

Option 1 - Premium sleeper bus: Premium sleeper bus tickets to Ha Giang City can be arranged with flexible departure times at 07:00, 12:00, 16:00 or 21:00, subject to availability and the guest’s travel schedule.

Option 2 - Private car transfer: A private car from Hanoi or another suitable departure point to Ha Giang City can be arranged for guests who prefer more privacy, comfort, and flexibility with departure time and pick-up location.

Note: Premium sleeper bus tickets or private car transfer to Ha Giang City are not included in the tour price and can be arranged with an applicable supplement upon request.

DAY 1: HA GIANG - SAO HA VILLAGE - SANG TUNG STONE DESERT - LAO XA - DONG VAN (MEALS: BREAKFAST, LUNCH, DINNER)

Ha Giang City to Dong Van Old Quarter: approx. 150 km | 5 - 6 hrs

07:30 - The day begins with pickup and a short tour briefing at the tour office in Ha Giang City. Guests then transfer to a local restaurant for breakfast before starting the journey.

The journey continues north into the dramatic landscapes of the Dong Van Karst Plateau. Mid-morning at 10:00, visit Sao Ha Village, a hidden settlement of the Hmong people tucked deep within the forest. With fewer than thirty households, the village preserves a traditional way of life largely unchanged by tourism. The area is also known as a filming location for several Vietnamese productions inspired by the mysterious atmosphere of the remote highlands.

Lunch is served in Pho Cao village.

13:00 - In the afternoon, explore one of the lesser-known scenic routes of the Dong Van Plateau, passing through remote villages and the striking Sang Tung Stone Desert. The barren karst formations here resemble a vast stone landscape stretching across the plateau, offering a unique perspective on the region’s geology.

Later, visit Lao Xa Village, a charming Hmong community known for its traditional silver craftsmanship. Artisans in the village continue to produce handmade silver jewelry using techniques passed down through generations.

16:30 - Arrive in Dong Van town in the late afternoon. After check-in at the hotel, dinner is served featuring regional specialties.

In the evening, guests may stroll through Dong Van Old Quarter. On weekends, the area often hosts lively cultural gatherings and small bonfire activities in the historic square.

Sang Tung Stone Desert

DAY 2: WHITE CLIFF HIKING - NHO QUE 3 RIVER - MEO VAC (MEALS: BREAKFAST, LUNCH, DINNER)

Dong Van Old Quarter to Meo Vac: approx. 25 km | 1 - 1.5 hrs

07:30 - Breakfast is served in Dong Van Old Quarter before the journey continues with a visit to Dong Van Market, if the itinerary falls on a weekend, offering insight into the vibrant trading culture of the highland communities.

08:30 - The journey continues to the White Cliff ridge trail near Ma Pi Leng Pass for a scenic hike of approximately 6 km from the Youth Volunteer Monument viewpoint. With panoramic mountain views across the Tu San Canyon and the Nho Que River far below and a well-paced route, this light to moderate walk is ideal for active travelers seeking an immersive nature experience in Ha Giang.

  • Suitable for: guests with average fitness and a good level of mobility

Lunch is served in Meo Vac town.

14:00 - In the afternoon, continue toward the Nho Que River area for a motorboat excursion across the Nho Que 3 reservoir. Surrounded by towering limestone cliffs, this peaceful section of the river offers opportunities for kayaking or swimming depending on weather and water conditions.

By late afternoon, arrive at the homestay in Meo Vac. Guests enjoy a relaxed evening with a traditional barbecue dinner and overnight stay in the highland town.

Nho Que 3 River

DAY 3: NIA DO BAMBOO FOREST - MEO VAC SINKHOLE - DUONG THUONG VALLEY - HA GIANG (MEALS: BREAKFAST, LUNCH)

Meo Vac to Ha Giang City via Mau Due: approx. 155 - 170 km | 5 - 5.5 hrs

07:00 - Enjoy breakfast at the local homestay, the journey continues with the final day’s exploration through some of Ha Giang’s lesser-known yet deeply rewarding landscapes and cultural spaces.

If the day falls on a weekend, guests may begin with a visit to Meo Vac Market, offering a vivid glimpse into the trading traditions and market culture of the highland communities.

The route then leads into the heart of the Dong Van Karst Plateau along the scenic Tia Cua Si route, where sweeping views open over the Nho Que River basin and the distant Sam Pun range stretching toward the Vietnam - China border. Along the way, the journey passes remote Hmong villages including Tia Cua Si Village, Nia Do Village, and Ca Chua Do Village, before reaching the peaceful landscape of Nia Do Bamboo Forest.

09:00 - The exploration continues to the dramatic Meo Vac Sinkhole, one of the largest in Ha Giang, known for its vast crater and distinctive vegetation hidden at the bottom.

From here, the journey turns back toward Ha Giang along the Meo Vac - Mau Due route, with photo stops at scenic highlights including the iconic M-shaped curves. Lunch is served in Mau Due.

13:00 - In the afternoon, the road winds through the beautiful Duong Thuong Valley before gradually descending back to Ha Giang City.

16:00 - Arrival in Ha Giang City

Arrive back in Ha Giang City. Guests may freshen up and rest briefly at the tour office before the onward transfer to Hanoi or another destination.

Transfer options:

Option 1 - Premium sleeper bus: Guests may choose an early bus around 16:30 - 17:00 to return on the same day, or a night sleeper bus around 21:00 to arrive the next morning.

Option 2 - Private car: A private car transfer from Ha Giang City to Hanoi or another requested destination can be arranged for guests who prefer more privacy, comfort, and flexibility.
