During their private 4-day, 3-night Ha Giang – Sapa journey with Nomadic Soul Travel, this family of three created a beautiful travel story shaped by smiles, family connection and memorable experiences.
Happiness can be as simple as travelling together
Amid the demands of everyday life, a family journey offers precious time to leave daily responsibilities behind, reconnect with one another and discover new places together.
Throughout the Ha Giang – Sapa journey, the three family members shared every experience side by side. Their photographs captured bright smiles, spontaneous moments of joy, quiet pauses overlooking the mountains and the simple happiness of exploring extraordinary destinations with the people who matter most.
Some moments were peaceful and heart-warming. Others brought an overwhelming sense of joy as the family stood before the immense and dramatic beauty of Northern Vietnam.
Day one: From Ha Giang City to Vietnam’s northern frontier
After travelling by overnight sleeper bus from Hanoi, the family arrived in Ha Giang City early in the morning and had time to rest before beginning their exploration of the Dong Van Karst Plateau.
The journey started with several signature viewpoints at the gateway to Ha Giang, including Bac Sum Pass, Quan Ba Heaven Gate and the Twin Mountains of Quan Ba.
The family then continued to Tham Ma Pass, one of Ha Giang’s best-known mountain roads, before travelling towards Lung Cu.
At Lung Cu Flag Tower, standing in Vietnam’s northern borderland offered more than an opportunity for beautiful photographs. It also inspired a deep sense of pride and affection for the country.
Located beneath the flag tower, Lo Lo Chai Village offered time to walk among traditional houses, observe local life and appreciate the peaceful character of this remote border community.
The first day ended in Dong Van, where the family enjoyed dinner, rested at their hotel and had free time to explore the old quarter.
Day two: Ma Pi Leng Pass, the Nho Que River and the journey to Sapa
Leaving Dong Van, the family continued towards Ma Pi Leng Pass, one of Vietnam’s most spectacular mountain routes.
From the pass, the dramatic landscape of the karst plateau, Tu San Canyon and the Nho Que River unfolded far below. It was one of the moments that inspired the family’s greatest excitement and joy.
The next memorable experience was a boat journey along the Nho Que River, passing through the Tu San Canyon area. Surrounded by towering mountains, the three family members captured some of the most joyful and energetic photographs of the trip.
After lunch in Meo Vac, the journey returned towards Ha Giang City through Mau Due, with stops at scenic locations such as the M-shaped bend.
In the evening, the family boarded a sleeper bus from Ha Giang to Sapa, moving from the dramatic rocky landscapes of the northeast to a new chapter in the northwestern highlands.
Day three: Free exploration in Sapa and the Fansipan experience
The family arrived in central Sapa at approximately 1:00 a.m. and travelled to their hotel for rest before beginning a day of independent exploration.
After breakfast, they were free to enjoy Sapa at their own pace. During this time, their cheerful photographs in front of the iconic Sapa Stone Church became another memorable part of the family’s travel album.
One of the day’s highlights was the journey to Fansipan, known as the Roof of Indochina.
According to the actual programme, Fansipan was an optional, self-guided experience selected by the family. Nomadic Soul Travel assisted with the arrangement of the combined tickets, allowing the guests to explore the cable-car route and mountain attractions independently.
Fansipan offered more than a famous place for photographs. It became a shared family milestone—a moment to admire the Hoang Lien Son mountain range from an impressive elevation and enjoy the excitement of reaching one of Vietnam’s most recognisable travel landmarks.
Final day: Cat Cat Village, Y Linh Ho and a walk through Sapa’s mountain landscapes
After breakfast and an early hotel check-out, the family was collected from their hotel to begin the final day’s village experience.
From Sapa town, the route descended towards Cat Cat Village, introducing the family to the cultural landscape and living environment of the local H’Mong community.
After visiting the waterfall and hydroelectric station area, they continued on foot along an unpaved trail through terraced fields. The route passed through a tropical mountain landscape protected as part of the Hoang Lien National Park area.
The next destination was Y Linh Ho Village, home to the Black H’Mong community. Its peaceful surroundings, green hillsides and traditional local life created a gentle and memorable contrast to the dramatic roads of Ha Giang.
The Cat Cat – Y Linh Ho experience involved approximately 15 minutes of travel by vehicle and around three hours of walking. After completing the trail, the family returned to Sapa and prepared for the 2:00 p.m. sleeper-bus journey back to Hanoi.
One journey with many different experiences
In four days, the family experienced several distinct sides of Northern Vietnam.
The journey connected Ha Giang’s dramatic mountain roads, the borderland atmosphere of Lung Cu, the peaceful community of Lo Lo Chai, the grandeur of Ma Pi Leng and the Nho Que River with Sapa’s gentler rhythm, the Fansipan experience and the mountain trails between Cat Cat and Y Linh Ho.
Sightseeing services in Ha Giang and Sapa were arranged as a private tour with a private vehicle suitable for the family. Local guides, entrance tickets, the Nho Que River boat trip and other services specified in the programme were coordinated by Nomadic Soul Travel, while the longer journeys between Hanoi, Ha Giang and Sapa were made by sleeper bus.
This combination offered privacy and flexibility at each destination while providing practical transport connections between the different regions.
