DAY 0: TRAVEL TO HA GIANG CITY (MEALS: ON YOUR OWN)
Hanoi to your chosen hotel in Ha Giang City: approx. 280 km | 5.5 - 6.0 hours by bus
Noi Bai International Airport to Ha Giang City: approx. 257 km | 4.5 – 5.0 hours by bus
Travelers arrive independently in Ha Giang City prior to the start of the journey. One complimentary dormitory night is provided at the Nomadic Soul Travel rest area before the tour begins, allowing guests time to rest after their journey and prepare for the upcoming adventure. Nomadic Soul Travel can assist with booking comfortable sleeper buses between Hanoi and Ha Giang City with flexible departure times at 07:00, 12:00, 16:00, or 21:00.
DAY 1: HA GIANG – SAO HA VILLAGE – SANG TUNG STONE DESERT – LAO XA – DONG VAN (B/ L/ D)
Ha Giang City to Dong Van Old Quarter: approx. 150 km | 5–6 hours
The journey begins in Ha Giang City with a short briefing before departing toward the legendary Dong Van Karst Plateau.
Leaving the city behind, the road gradually climbs into the dramatic limestone mountains of northern Vietnam. The first stop of the day is Sao Ha Village, a remote Hmong settlement hidden deep within the forest. With only a small number of households, the village preserves a quiet atmosphere and a way of life closely connected to the surrounding mountains. Sao Ha is also known for its mysterious stories and has served as the filming location for several well-known Vietnamese movies.
Lunch is served in Pho Cao village.
In the afternoon, the journey continues deeper into the Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark along a route rarely visited by most travelers. One of the highlights is the remarkable Sang Tung Stone Desert, where jagged limestone formations create a surreal landscape stretching across the plateau.
Later in the day, visit Lao Xa Village, a picturesque Hmong community famous for its traditional silver-making craft. The village sits quietly among the rocky mountains, and many local families still practice this centuries-old artisan tradition.

In the evening, guests may stroll through the historic Dong Van Old Quarter, where stone houses, small cafés, and local markets create a charming atmosphere in the heart of the plateau.

Sang Tung Stone Desert
DAY 2: WHITE CLIFF HIKING – NHO QUE RIVER – MEO VAC (B/ L/ D)
Dong Van Old Quarter to Meo Vac: approx. 23–25 km | 1–1.5 hours
After breakfast in Dong Van Old Quarter, the day begins with a visit to the local market if the itinerary coincides with the weekend market day. These vibrant highland markets offer a fascinating glimpse into the trading traditions and daily life of the ethnic communities living across the mountain region.
The journey then continues toward the famous Ma Pi Leng Pass, one of the most spectacular mountain roads in Southeast Asia. From the Youth Volunteer Monument viewpoint, guests begin a scenic hike along the White Cliff ridge trail. This approximately six-kilometer route offers sweeping views across Tu San Canyon and the emerald waters of the Nho Que River far below.
Along the trail, several dramatic viewpoints appear, including striking rock formations and cliff-edge panoramas revealing the immense scale of the Dong Van Karst Plateau.
Lunch is served in Meo Vac town with traditional highland specialties.
In the afternoon, continue to the Nho Que River area where a motorboat excursion explores the peaceful waters of the Nho Que 3 reservoir near Phong Luu Gorge. Surrounded by towering limestone cliffs, the river journey offers a unique perspective of the plateau’s dramatic landscape.
Depending on weather and water conditions, guests may also enjoy kayaking or swimming in the clear mountain water.
Later in the afternoon, arrive in Meo Vac village and check in at a traditional homestay.

Hiking the White Cliff Trail
DAY 3: NIA DO BAMBOO FOREST – MEO VAC SINKHOLE – DUONG THUONG VALLEY – HA GIANG (B/ L)
Meo Vac to Ha Giang City via Mau Due: approx. 155–170 km | 5.0–5.5 hours
The morning begins in the peaceful mountain town of Meo Vac. If traveling on a Sunday, guests may explore the colorful Meo Vac market, one of the most vibrant ethnic markets in the region.
The journey then continues along the remote Tia Cua Si mountain road deep within the Dong Van Karst Plateau. From this elevated route, travelers can enjoy panoramic views over the Nho Que River valley, with the distant Sam Pun mountain range stretching toward the Vietnam–China border.
Along the way, the road passes through small Hmong villages such as Tia Cua Si, Nia Do, and Ca Chua Do, surrounded by bamboo forests and rugged limestone cliffs.
Later in the morning, visit the impressive Meo Vac Sinkhole, one of the largest geological sinkholes in Ha Giang. The enormous natural depression reveals unique vegetation and geological formations shaped over millions of years.
The journey then continues back toward Ha Giang via Mau Due, with scenic photo stops at dramatic viewpoints including the famous M-shaped mountain curves.
Lunch is served in Mau Due.
In the afternoon, the road winds through the beautiful Duong Thuong Valley before gradually descending back to Ha Giang City.
Arrival in Ha Giang City is expected in the late afternoon. Guests may relax and refresh at the tour office before boarding a sleeper bus for their onward journey.
Travelers may choose an early bus departing around 16:30–17:00 for same-day return, or a night sleeper bus departing around 21:00 for arrival in other cities the following morning.
