Overnight Cruise On The Mekong Delta (Bassac Cruise) - 2 Days 1 Night

DETAILED ITINERARY:

DAY 1: HO CHI MINH CITY - CAI BE - OVERNIGHT CRUISE (MEALS: BREAKFAST, LUNCH, DINNER)

In the morning, leave Ho Chi Minh City for Cai Be, one of the gateways to the Mekong Delta. The drive leads away from the energy of the city into the slower rhythms of southern Vietnam’s riverine landscape.

Arrive in Cai Be around midday and board the Bassac. A welcome drink is served on arrival, followed by a short introduction to the vessel and crew.

The cruise then departs toward Cho Lach along the Tien Giang River. Lunch is served on the upper deck while the scenery of the delta gradually unfolds. The boat later enters the Cho Lach Canal, passing sand and rice barges, fruit-drying facilities and traditional wooden boatyards.

In the afternoon, visit a village on the banks of the Mang Thit River and gain a closer look at daily life in the delta. Depending on local conditions, the visit may include a nearby orchard or rice field.

Back on board, guests are invited to relax with a complimentary drink while enjoying sunset views over the Mekong waterways.

Dinner is served as the Bassac continues along the Mang Thit River and anchors for the night near the small market town of Tra On.

DAY 2: CAI RANG - CAN THO - HO CHI MINH CITY (MEALS: BREAKFAST, LUNCH)

Breakfast is served on board as the cruise continues from Tra On toward the Can Tho area.

Upon arrival, check out of the cabin and transfer to a smaller local boat for a visit to Cai Rang floating market.

Here, guests can observe the lively trading activity of large and small boats moving through the waterways. Fruit and vegetable boats gather in the early morning market hours, creating one of the Mekong Delta’s most iconic scenes. Each boat typically displays samples of its goods on a tall pole at the bow, making it easy to identify what is for sale from a distance.

After the floating market visit, return to land and enjoy lunch in Can Tho before transferring back to Ho Chi Minh City.

The return drive takes around 4 hours, depending on traffic conditions.
